COMPETITION RULES

The competition will be played between participating clubs, who between them represent the counties of Sussex & Kent. This may be extended to include clubs on the adjacent Surrey border.

Matches to be played between 1st October and 31st March annually with 2/3 of the matches played before Christmas. Exceptionally, a postponed fixture may be rearranged in April but it is hoped that by playing the majority of the matches pre-Christmas, then the end of March deadline can be maintained so as to avoid clashes with other inter-club matches such as Invicta League. In the event the clubs are unable to rearrange a cancelled or abandoned match for completion by 31st March, the match may be considered a drawn match with each club receiving 5 points each. This will be for the respective SusKen captains to determine.

Each club will play the other participating clubs based on home one year and away the next. A “Six Nations” style scheduling.

This is very much winter golf which may include temporary tees and greens.

The format will be four ball, better ball match play. You should first determine each players Playing Handicap by calculating their Course Handicap. The player with the lowest Course Handicap plays off zero strokes releative to the other player(s). The other player(s) receive(s) 90% of the difference between their own Course Handicap and that of the player with the lowest Course Handicap.

Each team will consist of five pairs.

Teams should be selected from players 18 years and over and have submitted a minimum of 6 handicap qualifying 18 hole rounds in the previous 12 month period.

Each team to have a maximum of 3 players with a World Handicap Index of 5.0 or less. A maximum World Handicap Index of 16.0 is allowed.

Players will meet for 9.00 breakfast with first tee time from 10.00 (unless a later time has been agreed). Breakfast will be charged at £12.50 per person inclusive.

Whilst this is winter golf conditions, buggies will be only permitted with a current medical certificate and only the person who holds the current medical certificate may use the buggy. His playing partner may not use the buggy for himself or his clubs.

For each match there will be two points for a win and one for a draw. Therefore, the maximum number of points a team can obtain in each fixture is 10. In the event of a tie the number of matches won, then individual games won and then, if still tied, the head to head results between the two tied teams will determine the respective league position.

Tees used for matches would normally be the medal tees, but the home club can use its discretion to nominate use of an alternative tee position, so long as it is marked, should they so wish.

Shots Received / Given

Match Captains are responsible for setting out the team sheet shortly prior to play commencing and checking the calculations on the schedule. It is also the responsibility of each player to ensure they play applying their Handicap Index on the day of play when calculating their Course Handicap and the players shots received / given.

Incorrect Calculation of Playing Handicap / Shots Received / Given

  • Any player receiving a shot (or more) above their entitlement will be disqualified and their pairs result will be awarded to their opponents.
  • If both sides field a player in the same match who meet the above disqualification criteria, then the affected match will be deemed disqualified and no points granted to either team for the affected match.
  • A player inadvertantly receiving less strokes than their entitlement on the day does not result in disqualification but once a match has started, no subsequent adjustment to a players shots will be permitted to correct the strokes received.
Matches will be played on the main course however exceptions will be permitted for good reason.

  • Hever Castle - During the darker winter months (Mid Nov to Feb) Hever operate a two-tee start, this is the best way to get as many members onto the course when the days are shorter. This does mean the earliest tee time on the championship course would be 12:30. However Hever has 27 holes and the Princes course is a very good 9 holes. The backup option is to play the Boleyn Course (Back 9 Championship plus Princes) in the event that Hever cannot get onto the full Championship course when the two-tee start in is operation.

  • Dale Hill – Will endeavour to play all matches on the Ian Woosnam Course, however Dale Hill may switch matches to the Old Course should course circumstances dictate.

All matches will be played at weekends. In extreme circumstanmces matches may be played mid-week by mutual agreement only.

A result team sheet will be signed by both Match Captains and promptly sent to the SusKen League Secretary. Except for an incorrect Handicap Index discovered post-match which favours the players shots received or if the lowest Playing Handicap player the base from which the shots are being given, this will result in disqualification of the player with the incorrect Handicap Index, the signed sheet will be considered final.
